The Westside Shopping and Leisure Centre in Bern-Brünn is similar to a naturally grown district that is active both day and night. The facade of the large structure is comprised of Robinia timber, and connects in a simple way the building complex to the landscape opening towards west.
Its wooden facade is a trademark of the Westside Mall. The American star architect Daniel Libeskind went for wood because it “ages nicely”. By choosing our European Robinia, Libeskind opted for a hardwood that is more weather resistant and durable than other woods.
Eurobinia supplied the profiled board elements for the Westside-complex, and supported the builder using their long years of Robinia wood experience. After the Letzigrund stadium in Zürich, the Westside site was already our second large-scale Swiss project.
